Every year we look forward to Pantone's Color of the Year. A couple of times a year, the company pleases us with the fashionable palettes of the season. But the ugliest color, according to Wikipedia, was chosen once, and so far not a single shade has encroached on this title.

The most nasty color for humans was determined analytically by GfK Bluemoon, a company commissioned by the Australian government. Researchers conducted several polls, each of which invariably won the same color. It happened to be Pantone 448C, and he looks like a mixture of swamp slurry and excrement.
Why did the Australians need this "handsome"? The answer is simple: to strengthen armament in the fight against smoking. The government has obliged to change the design of cigarette packages using Pantone 448C color: supposedly, such an act should force esthete smokers to refrain from buying tobacco products.

And, apparently, it worked, because in 2016 WHO recommended that all countries think about such design of cigarette packs. This advice has already been followed by France, Great Britain, and Norway.
Here's some more 448C in art, interior and design. In 2020, it should be called "complex" or "unusual" rather than "ugly." The word “ugly” is now no longer a friend of ours anymore :)
